HarborField Sourcing load-basis checks for building alternatives

HarborField Sourcing is an independent sourcing service. Buyers who searched boxx modular can use this center to decide which load and envelope facts are still open. The desk does not claim authorized dealer status and does not supply the referenced brand.

A price without design wind speed, ground snow load, and seismic design category is a number for an unnamed site. It can be stored. It should not be ranked against a number that names those criteria.

01

Use

Occupancy drives design live load and the fire-resistance rating conversation.

02

Wind

Design wind speed in mph and wind exposure category come from the site, not from a brochure map.

03

Snow and seismic

Ground snow load in psf and seismic design category stay blank until the buyer or the jurisdiction supplies them.

04

Gravity

Design dead load includes the ceiling, the floor build-up, and mechanical units the quote actually carries.

05

Envelope

Insulated metal panel, roof, and openings are checked against the loads, then against thermal transmittance.

What to put on the request, and what to leave open

A standardized unit is easier to compare when module dimensions, openings, and published design loads match the project. A custom engineered system is the fitting request when clear span, eave height, or a local load falls outside that published set. Choosing the standard box to force a short price is a scope change, and it should be labeled as one.

Wind and snow

Design wind speedmph, site specific, such as 115 mph only when the jurisdiction states it, or marked unknown
Wind exposure categoryThe category the authority uses for that address, for example exposure C
Ground snow loadpsf, such as 30 psf, including any drift condition the buyer already knows

Seismic and gravity

Seismic design categoryA through F only when the project criteria say so
Design live loadpsf for the occupancy, not a borrowed office value
Design dead loadList floor, roof, and hung equipment included in the quote

Frame and envelope

Primary frameBuilt-up plate, hot-rolled steel, cold-formed steel, or a named mix
Secondary framingPurlin and girt spacing the supplier will actually furnish
Thermal transmittanceU-value or R-value for the climate and the code path under discussion
Fire-resistance ratingOnly if the jurisdiction or the occupancy has raised it

Ask the supplier to name the adopted load standard and edition; if it cites ASCE 7, have the project professional verify its applicability. AISC 360 and AWS D1.1 are references for steel design and welding on the quoted system. IBC or IRC applicability depends on the occupancy and the authority. None of these names means HarborField Sourcing or an unnamed factory holds an accreditation.

Specification questions to close before award

Can two quotes be ranked if one omits snow?

No. Park the incomplete reply until the project professional confirms the applicable load basis. A commercial exclusion is not permission to ignore a required design load. Ranking an unresolved reply against a complete load set hides the difference inside the price.

What should be verified on an alternative frame?

Member type, coating, module dimensions or bay spacing, clear span, foundation interface, and the calculations sealed for the project jurisdiction. A similar exterior photo is not that verification.

How are shell and turnkey kept apart here?

The Specification Center records the load basis. The services page records who buys the foundation, the crane, and the utilities. Both files are needed before a percentage comparison would even be meaningful, and this desk does not publish one.

Where do product names go?

Attach a name from the inquiry list if it helps the supplier. The name does not replace eave height, wind speed, or destination.

Request a load-basis quotation

  • Send the loads you know and mark the loads you do not.
  • State quantity, destination, and the scope tag.
  • Ask for drawings and calculations tied to the quoted system.
  • Keep the buyer preference for premium, mid-range, budget, or undecided separate from any factory rating.
